Abstract

Small and medium enterprises (SME) in Indonesia have a major role in Indonesia in supporting economic growth. According to World Bank data, SMEs were not significantly affected by the Asian Financial Crisis and survived relatively well. However, since the Indonesian economic slowdown 2013, SMEs have fared poorly (especially when seen from the perspective of banks) – credit quality has deteriorated, while borrowing has slowed. This survey addresses two main questions: assessing the current outlook and challenges faced by SMEs, and the relationship with banks and perception of service offering of banks (to assess their role in supporting the SMEs).
