Abstract

This aim of this research is to see the contribution of self-regulated learning (SRL) on students' academic achievement at Paramadina University. Since there is a new group of students in Paramadina, that is the scholarship students, the analysis included the difference of SRL between scholarship and regular students, including the comparison between scholarship students and regular students with high GPA (above 3,00) and a low GPA (below 2,50). This research was conducted to 204 students, divided into three groups: scholarships students (69), regular students with high GPA (74), and regular students with low GPA (61). Results showed that the contribution of SRL learning on academic achievement is 17,1%. There is a significant difference on SRL between scholarships and regular students, between scholarships students and regular students with high GPA, and between regular students with high GPA and low GPA. Additional analysis showed there is no difference on SRL between gender. Practical implications of this research are: 1) increasing the role of academic supervisor in helping students to have a more focused academic goals (eg setting a target value per subject) and change the way to motivate students in terms of perceptions of ability, 2) for lecturers to create atmosphere and classroom rules that can foster self-confidence in students, that they are able to achieve what is desired. The more students feel that they are able to achieve something, the more students the maximum effort to achieve what they want, including academic performance, 3) the need for training to improve self-regulation itself, especially for students with low academic performance. Key word: Self-regulated learning, academic achievement, gender, high student achievement, low student achievement.
